The Future of the Internet - What Does This Mean for Businesses?

Yes, it is one thing to know the Internet is always changing, but it is another to be able to keep up with it and its' emerging trends to promote your business effectively and in a relative way. Video is a hot topic, and a fast trend that businesses will need to undertake to get the attention they are after. In May this year, YouTube released new statistics about their increasing usage. In 2007, 8 hours of video was uploaded onto YouTube per minute. Now, in 2011, 48 hours is uploaded each minute. This is an increase of 600% over 5 years!! Impressively, YouTube celebrated their 6th birthday this year. For a business to grow this fast in such a short time frame, only shows us that video is one of the biggest things out there today on the net, especially with views of over 3 billion each day. (Youtube, 2011) Imagine how this will develop in another 5 years? More websites will have the option to upload videos to give demonstrations, information and more, as the function to upload a video online will be as easy as brushing your teeth. Television will be a thing of the past, as people won't need to be restricted to watching a program at the designated time. They will be able to watch it whenever they feel like it, online. Video is not a new trend... it has been around for a while. Though it will be detrimental for your businesses if you do not take part in this new adventure. As the saying goes, if your business is not on the Internet, it does not exist - without video integration. We added the last part, but we believe this will be true for 2015, so get on board now and be an early adopter not a laggard. Nowadays, more and more businesses are creating a presence online, and putting it simply, the popularity of video means content on websites will take the form of videos. This will start to become more popular for businesses in Australia when our bandwidth is increased to a similar speed of the USA. Some simple ways to improve your online presence to align with this emerging trend (video): About Us Video o On your home page, instead of writing what you do for business, create a video (if you are not video savvy, try creating one in PowerPoint). Make sure it includes your key messages, telling your viewers everything they need to know about your business to get them to keep looking through your website. Share Interesting Videos o If you are a business with strong views about particular topics, share them on your website - making sure you still fulfill your company's brand appropriately. Integrate Videos on YouTube and Facebook o Post videos on your Facebook page and be active on YouTube Vlog o Create your own video blog in relation to your business and integrate topics relevant, that people will find interesting.
